Tater tots are a popular potato snack in the United States. In Germany, you won’t find them in supermarkets. You can make your own with a simple recipe.

Peel the potatoes and boil them in salted water for about six minutes. So they shouldn’t be too hard, but they shouldn’t be completely cooked. Drain the water.

Cool the potatoes, then rub them on a fine grater.

Place the grated potatoes on a clean kitchen towel and squeeze until the liquid comes out.

Then mix the potatoes with the rest of the ingredients. If necessary, add a little more flour or water until the mixture comes together but is not too wet.

Form small balls from the potato mixture.

To fry, heat the oil in a pan until it reaches 170 degrees. It is best to use a thermometer for this. Alternatively, you can hold a wooden skewer in the oil and wait for small bubbles to rise.

Now place some of the balls in the oil so that they don’t touch. Fry the balls for about 3-4 minutes. Once they are golden brown, take them out and drain. Do this for all the Tater Tots at once.
Tater tots aren’t just versatile as a side dish
